On this particular day, we brought Charlie's new art table into the kitchen, covered it with butcher paper, and made him some homemade paints. I wanted something that was quick and easy to make AND just as quick and easy to clean up. With just three ingredients in my kitchen (that I promise you already have lying around), I was able to quickly whip up some awesome Charlie paints!
Recipe for Quick and Easy Toddler Paint
- 1 cup flour
- 1 cup water
- food coloring
Yes, that's really all you need! Mix together the flour and water until there are no lumps in the mix. Then portion the "paint" into individual cups (we found that a muffin tin worked best) and add drops of food coloring for desired colors to each portion. Mix well and have fun!
Charlie had a great deal of fun painting lovely pictures on his paper.... we discovered that yellow may be his favorite color! Of course, like I said earlier, we're in a big "bored" phase, so painting nice pictures on paper eventually turned into painting ourselves....
.... and we finally moved the party into the shower (like I said: easy cleanup!!)...
All in all, Charlie stayed occupied for about an hour. Any other suggestions for fun indoor playtime??

My boys love painting and I enjoy trying different recipes. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThis is great! My little guy is 15 months...I am going to have to introduce him to painting this way!
ReplyDeleteMy kids love painting! Mine always loved lacing anything. Have you tried to color pasta and let him string them on a piece of yard with a plastic needle or an old shoestring works well too.
ReplyDeleteThat really does sound easy! I bet my 18 month old would love it. The mess does terrify me just a little bit, but might be worth it. :)
ReplyDeleteLooks like a fun project. I pinned it! :)
ReplyDeleteLooks super easy! Even something I could make! :)
ReplyDeleteThat sounds so easy, we have to try it. Plus, it's probably pretty safe, considering it's food paint, in case some ends up in my 17 month-old son's mouth (which it inevitably will, I guess). Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteGreat arts and crafts project for cold days in the winter!
ReplyDeleteThis is great for a tv free activity this winter! I think I'll try it w/buckwheat flour since we are GF here. THANKS!
