May Natural Living Blog Carnival: Babies Don't Keep

Welcome to the May 2014 Natural Living Blog Carnival: Green Moms. This post was written for inclusion in the monthly Natural Living Blog Carnival hosted by Happy Mothering and Crunchy Farm Baby through the Green Moms Network. This month, our members are talking about how they take time to care for themselves. Stop by all of the posts to get green ideas on how you can take better care of yourself .

Babies Don't Keep

As many of you know, we welcomed our second son, Desmond, into the world on April 9th (birth story coming soon, I promise!).  I'm sure that any of you with more than one child can relate to the fact that there hasn't been much "me" time lately.  So when it came time to write my post for this month's carnival, it was hard for me to come up with a post about ways that I take time for myself.  Then, one of my fellow mommy friends shared the above poem on Facebook.  And it got me thinking.... it's ok that I'm not taking a lot of time for myself right now.  There's really not much I want to do other than cuddle my new baby, and that's ok.

My sink may have dishes in it from yesterday, my laundry may be piled as high as the washing machine, and I honestly cannot remember the last time I took a shower by myself, but you know what?  My tiny little Desmond slept peacefully on my chest for a solid three hours this afternoon; and Charlie and I spent a crazy amount of time building a block house for a spider this evening after dinner.  And THOSE are the things that I did for myself today - I made memories with my littles.

One day too soon, my children will be grown and I'll be caught up on chores and will be able to soak in the bathtub with a glass of wine all evening if I choose.  But for now, you'll find me squished between my babies in our family bed, enjoying every cuddly moment that I can get.

So cuddle your babies, mamas.  Make memories with your older ones.  Know that it's ok to genuinely enjoy being with your children and not wish that you were alone.

It's a Boy! (and Guess That Baby Contest winners announced....)

Desmond Gene was born peacefully at home April 9 at 1:22am!  He weighed 7 lbs 10 oz.  Birth story is in the works, but we wanted to share our joyous news!  Big brother Charlie is as in love as Mommy and Daddy are.

Winners of our Guess That Baby Contest are:
1- Gender: There were 12 correct guesses of "boy".  Random winner is Alicia O.
2- Date/Time: There were 2 guesses of April 9, but the closest to 1:22am was Brittney M. with just over an hour difference!
3- Weight: Only one perfectly accurate guess of 7 lbs 10 oz by Gabrielle D.

Winners will be emailed directly.  Thanks to everyone for playing along and celebrating the arrival of our little Dez with us!  Be sure to check back for the birth story soon!

Guess That Baby! Contest {CLOSED}

So, we haven't really made any announcements here on the blog, but if you follow along with us on Facebook or Instagram, you've probably figured out by now that we're soon going to be Crunchy Farm BabIES!!  Baby number 2 is set to arrive any day now, and to celebrate, I thought we'd have a fun little giveaway contest!  We decided not to find out the gender of this baby, so we have three big questions to answer.... what will baby be, when will he or she be making an appearance, and what size will baby be?  Three winners will be chosen - one for each question.  Your prize will be a special box put together by me, shipped out whenever my babymoon is over!

Questions to answer:
- What gender will baby be?
- When will baby arrive?  Please guess a date and time, so that I can choose a winner if multiple people select the same date.
- How much will baby weigh?

To play:
- I'll be accepting submissions from now, April 5, until baby decides to arrive!
- Only one submission per person.
- Leave your response to both questions in the comments below.  Leave your email address so I can contact you if you are the winner!
- Obviously there will be multiple repeat guesses for the same question.  In this case, random.org will help me determine the winner!  For arrival date, the person closest to the actual time (over or under) will be the winner.

Important information:
- My "official" due date is April 12.  My original due date, according to LMP, was March 28, but ultrasounds confirmed late ovulation, bumping my date to April 12.
- Charlie was born at 37 weeks on the dot, but had been induced for pre-e, so we have no real indicator of how long he would've gone naturally.  He weighed 5 pounds, 7 ounces at birth.  Midwife's prediction at this point is 7½ pounds.
- As of my last appointment with our midwife, on April 2, I was slightly effaced and not dilated.
- For the "old wives tale" followers, here's some random info about my pregnancy that may help with your gender prediction: I carried fairly low and out front the entire pregnancy.  Not much weight gain in general, and most of it is all in my belly.  Cravings have been sweets, sweets, sweets.  My hair and skin have been extra oily.  Heart rate has been a consistent 155.  Morning sickness lasted well into the second trimester.  Chinese gender predictor says "boy."

GOOD LUCK!
